Garden Holidays

Garden Holidays and Observances are special days that are acknowledged through the year where you can celebrate the fruits of your labor! Gardens come in all shapes and sizes and types, and can be formal or informal.  I love them all. I am a fan of Garden Art in the Garden, and love Garden Gates, and Garden paths. I have an artist's personality, and my yard has always been my big canvas to create and experiment. My yard looks different each season based on what plants are in season in my time zone.  

This is one of my favorite photo's that I've taken from my Garden. I had just watered, and I loved the drops of water still on the leaves.

There are many types of Gardens, and the Garden special days below will attest to that.  Some of them are:

There are also certain popular holidays, and seasons that revolve around certain products from the garden. Some of the biggies are:

• Christmas and Poinsettia's
• Earth Day celebrates Environmental issues, with Organic Gardening a big focus these days
• Halloween and Pumpkins
• Mother's Day and really any flowers or plants as a gift
• St. Patrick's Day and four leaf clovers
• Thanksgiving and Pumpkin Pie
• Valentine's Day and Red Roses for Love, and Yellow Roses for friendship.

Certain Flowers have certain symbols too, like:

• Yellow Daffodils to honor Cancer Survivors

There are also some eating lifestyles that are popular these days, where the focus is on clean eating such as: (even better when you can purchase organic, or grow your own organic fruits and vegetables)

• Veganism
• Vegetarianism
• Related to eating lifestyles, more and more people are shopping at local farmer's markets or signing up for a CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) with a local farmer.

Gardens can be spruced up with the following touches:

• Outside Seating areas worked in to showcase your garden!!
• Tribute Gardens to a loved one that has passed away

There may a few duplicates or incorrect dates, there may be some that we have left off that we will add as we find them, and there are some that are similar, but have different Sponsor Organizations that started the Observances, that may have different approaches and info. As we delve into all the details, we will fix any issues.

Undoubtedly, one of the most spectacular Gardens in the world is the Butchart Garden in Victoria, B.C.  Pictured, is Leigh's son Ryan, and his wife Marlene standing above their Sunken Garden.
